This article investigates numerically the energy absorbing characteristics of metallic (Al 6063, Al 2024-
T3, St 52, Ti6Al4V) and composite (CFRP) tubes under axial dynamics load. Numerical analyses in this study
were performed using the finite element analysis package Ls-Dyna. Energy absorption, Specific energy absorption
(SEA), longitudinal strain and crushing force variations versus the time were obtained to determine the axial
crushing performance of the tubes. Analysis results showed that the highest peak force and SAE values were
acquired for titanium of Ti6Al4V. In addition to, the second highest SAE and second minimum peak force values
was obtained for CFRP tube.
